Special Project
First, acquire an abandoned house in Bloomfield Garfield and demolish it.
Then, give the Habitat program kids shovels to break the ground.
Build a new home with the support of funders, volunteers, and the family earning sweat equity hours.

Have a celebration and introduce the kids to their new home!

Mom signs a 30-year, interest-free mortgage where she will pay less per month for homeownership than she was paying for rent in subsidized public housing. Habitat is a hand up, not a hand out.

And there's certainly been a major investment into the neighborhood!

Your donations work to eliminate poverty housing in the Greater Pittsburgh area. On behalf of the program families and communities we serve, thank you for your support.
In 2012, Habitat for Humanity of Greater Pittsburgh expanded
our mission to serve local communities through the implementation of four key component services:
NEW CONSTRUCTION - one of the core components of our program, we will continue to build new homes when and where economically appropriate and we will build those homes to green standards.

REHAB - Habitat has consistently worked to rehabilitate homes for new program families at an affordable cost. The difference in our new mission* is that we will not only rehab houses for new homeowners, but we will enable current local homeowners the opportunity to remain in their homes by doing critical repairs (such as roof replacement) at an affordable cost with volunteer labor.

( * CRITICAL HOME REPAIR - A form of REHAB, CHR assists existing homeowners by offering zero percent interest loans for home repairs and improvements necessary for restoring and maintaining safe and sound living conditions and home values. This program is currently under development at HFHGP.)
VETERANS BUILD PROGRAM - As part of Habitat's CHR and A Brush With Kindness, the Veterans Build Program is designated for local veterans by providing an opportunity to serve together, provide community reintegration, and provide access to quality, affordable housing. This program invites Veterans and their families to apply for necessary home repairs or modifications including interior and exterior accessibility modifications. Beyond funds raised locally for our Veterans Build program, the Home Depot Foundation has approved HFHGP as one of 36 Habitat affiliates across the country to participate in their Repair Corps partnership.

WEATHERIZATION - expanding the number of clients we can serve in a community, our new weatherization program will cover a wide range of funding levels and demonstrate energy conservation for homeowners.
